Breathing affects everything we do.
From how much stress we hold in our body, how we feel, how much joy we experience to how we look to how strong we are (or aren’t).
Yep, breathing can make you physically stronger.
It may sound crazy, but most people don't know how to breathe properly. Most of us simply inhale enough air in our lungs to keep us alive.

Let’s Get Physical For A Second
If you’ve ever been to a pilates class, lifted weights or gone to a CrossFit gym, chances are you know the abs are a crucial part of core strength. Not as often mentioned, yet just as important, are the lower back muscles for overall core strength, because they act as an antagonist to the abdominals (core).
So you might be wondering, what in the world does this have to do with Breathing in the Bedroom?!
Everything. And it’s coming next!
There is another powerful antagonist to the abs which usually gets overlooked and it is the diaphragm.
Your diaphragm is a powerful muscle inside your belly that controls your breath.
Based on that function alone, it's one of the single most important muscles in the body.
During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts, creating space for your lungs to expand.
Do A Quick Exercise With Me Now
Go ahead and take a big breath right now.
Did your chest rise?
It shouldn't. But it's okay if it does. Just keep following me here.
Proper activation of the diaphragm draws the breath deep into the belly.
Having trouble figuring out how to breathe into your belly? Don’t worry, you are not alone!
Here’s a quick tip:
- Try standing upright with one hand on your stomach.
- Then take a deep breath, trying to expand your abdomen against your hand.
- It may take some trial and error to get the hang of it, so if your chest or shoulders rise simply know you need to breathe out and try again.
